How do you create a luxurious spa feeling at home?

January 29, 2026

Wellness is not just about comfort. It is about tranquillity, rituals and sensory experience. With a smart layout, high-quality products and careful attention to nature and light, you can transform your bathroom into a wellness space that feels like a private spa. Here’s how to achieve that. Inspired by a beautifully realised private project featuring a generous bathroom with double showers, a sauna and a round freestanding bath from the DADO DADO designcollection

What makes a bathroom a wellness space?

Wellness begins with space, light and calm. The more open the sightlines, the greater the sense of experience. In the example project, a glass partition creates an open, airy environment where light can flow freely. This contributes to a calm and serene atmosphere – exactly what you are looking for in a wellness experience.

Materials, design and colour also play a crucial role. Natural, soft tones, matte finishes and high-quality detailing enhance warmth and a sense of luxury without overwhelming the space.
In a wellness environment, everything works together: every choice should radiate calm. In this project, the integrated sauna completes the experience perfectly.

How does layout influence the wellness feeling?

A wellness bathroom feels more spacious and inviting when functions are not placed too close together. By separating yet visually connecting areas, a true spa experience emerges:

  • Glass walls allow light to enter and maintain clear sightlines
  • Double showers offer both comfort and spatial balance
  • Space around the bath encourages slowing down and relaxation

In smaller bathrooms, the same principles apply by creating visual “space”: light colour palettes, reflective surfaces and clear circulation lines contribute to a calm, spacious feel.

How does a bath or sauna enhance the wellness experience?

A round freestanding bath, such as one from the DADO design collection, is a powerful wellness element. It invites reflection and transforms a functional bathroom into a retreat. The bath can become the visual centrepiece: a sculptural object that radiates calm. An integrated sauna adds another dimension. Heat relaxes the muscles, stimulates circulation and contributes to a deep sense of wellbeing. Followed by a cold shower, it creates a ritual that connects body and mind.

What role do design and product choice play in wellness?

Wellness lies in details you may hardly notice, but definitely feel. High-quality materials, thoughtful forms and calm finishes make all the difference. Consider this:

  • Clean, minimalist finishes that keep the space balanced and serene
  • Premium materials that feel solid and provide lasting comfort
  • Robust, natural materials that withstand heat and steam, such as concrete and carefully selected woods

Materials like concrete create a strong, calm foundation and cope effortlessly with heat and moisture. When it comes to wood, not every species is suitable. In wellness spaces, teak, thermally modified wood, cedar and iroko are commonly used. These woods are dimensionally stable, moisture-resistant and retain their appearance even in warm, humid environments.

The combination of these materials strengthens the wellness experience: natural, durable and sensory, without compromising on design. When the aesthetics are right, your senses naturally find inner calm.

How do you create wellness in smaller bathrooms?

Wellness does not require large amounts of space. Even a compact design can evoke a spa feeling when you focus on:

  • One statement element, such as a distinctive shower or freestanding bath
  • Calm colour palettes that create visual space
  • Smart storage solutions to keep the room tidy and uncluttered

Fewer stimuli often mean deeper relaxation – this is the essence of wellness in compact spaces.

How do light and nature contribute to wellness?

Light and nature are true wellness boosters. Natural daylight provides energy and comfort. Soft, dimmable lighting creates atmosphere as the day draws to a close. Transparent materials such as glass visually connect the bathroom with other spaces or even the outdoors – a step towards inside–out living.

Natural accents like plants, wood and stone reinforce this feeling and turn the bathroom into a living space rather than a purely functional one.

Finally: wellness is a conscious choice!

Wellness is not a trend; it is a way of life. Whether you have a spacious bathroom or a compact design, the right choices in layout, lighting, materials and products can turn it into a place that brings calm. Every single day.
