Ruben van Megen

Designer JEE-O IZI

Ruben van Megen (1984) graduated from the Design Academy Eindhoven in 2012. His work is defined by an experimental approach to material and form. Driven by his fascination with sand, he creates objects in which a transient material takes on a lasting form. His work has received international recognition, including the Red Dot Design Award, and is represented by galleries in Europe, Asia and the US. “Sand has a temporary nature,” says Van Megen. “It shifts, disappears and constantly changes. In my work, I try to transform that fleeting quality into something lasting.” In collaboration with JEE-O, this resulted in the IZI: a portable outdoor shower where design, material and use come together seamlessly.
